10 Steps to a CRM for Property.
Step 1: Choose a CRM

This is our 10 steps to a CRM series; the how to DIY your own CRM system for your property business.

Step 1: Choose a CRM
How often have you seen this question on social media:
‘Can anyone recommend a CRM?’
We see it a lot.
In fact, we did a quick test, and the question appeared 109 times in a month across the groups we hang out in. But we’re not convinced anyone ever gets a definitive answer – because everyone gives a different one; because there are a lot of CRMs available.
If you posted the question in a Facebook group, chances are you now have a long list of systems (Podio, Pipedrive, Zoho, Insightly, Hubspot and there are even more) to go and investigate. You could just stick your finger in the air and pick one. The problem is once you’ve got it, you’ve got to figure it out, which could take you a shedload of time.
What happens when you can’t make it do what you need it to do?
You’ve just wasted time and probably money.
There is a solution to help you work out which CRM is for you!
We created a scorecard to evaluate and rate how each CRM would perform for our business. We started by looking at the essential features of each one:
- Is it accessible on a mobile so we can access it when we’re out and about?
- Does it play nicely with our other systems?
- Can it be personalised?
- Does the automation work the way we need it to?
Each CRM got a yes/no rating, so we could quickly see which one ticked the most boxes for us.
But we couldn’t choose yet…
We needed to analyse the licences to evaluate the cost vs functionality, will it work for our team, is it scalable (future-proofing is always wise), and finally what if something goes wrong? When we got stuck, ‘who you gonna call?’
Now could we choose a CRM?
We’d completed the scorecard; we’d assessed and evaluated every CRM. Now we were equipped to make an informed decision based on our needs and our budget – it was time to choose a CRM.
I’ve chosen my CRM, so what do I do now?
